Southend, Basildon and Canvey residents have been bracing themselves for some wet weather over the course of the last few days.
Weather forecasters predicted we will be hit by heavy showers and strong winds.
When residents mention floods, many of us think back to the devastating weather which hit Canvey in 1953.
Fifty-nine people died and 13,000 were evacuated from their homes after floodwater took over the island.
However, there have been plenty more floods since and we have delved into the archive to rediscover some photos of when the inclement weather caused problems in the 1970s and ‘80s.
Our snaps range from shopkeepers clearing floodwater to residents kayaking through the streets.
