A THUG has been banned from contacting his own father for five years after imprisoning and attacking him.

Michael Conreen has been locked up behind bars for more than three years after admitting the violent attack on his father which happened in June last year.

The 28-year-old of Macdonald Avenue, Westcliff, became angry with his father over a domestic dispute and then carried out the vile crimes.

Conreen imprisoned his father between June 22 and 25 last year.

It is the latest in a string of offences committed by the thug, who in November 2017 was jailed for threatening people with a samurai sword.

Conreen previously appeared at Basildon Crown Court in February where he admitted all the charges against his father, including unlawful imprisonment, making threats to kill, and causing grievous bodily harm.

He also admitted assaulting an emergency worker, where he spat at a police officer.

At Basildon Crown Court on Friday, Recorder William Clegg QC was shown photos of the injuries inflicted by Conreen on his father.

The recorder jailed him for three years and four months and imposed the restraining order.

This means Conreen cannot contact his father directly or indirectly, and must not go to where he lives.

Conreen has previously apologised in court to his father, making pleas to judges that he had learned the error of his ways.

On a video link from prison, he said he had suffered “bad flashbacks” since attacking him.

He said: “I am also sorry. Massively sorry.

“I have flashbacks, I’ve had some very bad flashbacks.

“He’s my dad and I care about him, and I am sorry.”

Conreen’s previous samurai sword attack took place on May 27, 2017.

At about 1.55am, two people were talking to a homeless man in Southend High Street when Conreen ran towards them with the samurai sword.

One of the victims suffered a cut to his hand and was quickly assisted by volunteers at the SOS Southend bus.

Conreen was arrested by police officers shortly afterwards.

On November 24 he was jailed for 12 months for affray and having an offensive weapon.
