I wish to register my heartfelt thanks to Robert Halfon, the Conservative MP for Harlow, who this week voted to support an opposition motion that sought to ensure that our most vulnerable children could access free school meals during the holidays for a very limited time to get us through this Covid crisis.
It is a shame that Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, did not feel the same sense of duty and compassion for the children of Southend as he joined in with 321 other Tory MPs to despicably vote against feeding vulnerable children who are in no way at fault for their situation.
Shame on them all.
DANIEL COWAN
Councillor for St Laurence Ward, Southend
