Hitting back - Southend United chairman Ron Martin
SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has hit back at ‘ridiculous’ rumours he is deliberately running the club into the ground.
Several fans have suggested Martin’s main focus now lies away from footballing matters.
But Martin is keen to put the record straight.
“There are these ridiculous rumours I want to run the club down so I can build more houses on the stadium site and that could not be further from my mind,” said Martin.
“Why would I be investing in the football club month after month and signing new players in January if I wanted to kill it?
“I would’ve left the kids in there who started the season but I think we must have made more signings than any other team in the Football League now.”
