SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has explained how the Shrimpers would benefit financially from moving to Fossetts Farm.

Martin will own the new stadium should Blues move from Roots Hall.

But, speaking to concerned supporters, Martin reiterated how the club would be boosted if the ground was to be built.

“When the stadium is complete there will be sources of income throughout the stadium,” said Martin.

“In the main stand there is seating for 850 to 1,000 on matchdays.

“That space is available for rent every other day of the year and the club would get every penny from it.

“There’s also a box that goes above the stadium on the south side in the first phase that is nearly 17,000 square feet.

“That will be used for community uses and will also be available to rent.

“That rent will also flow to the benefit of the football club.

“Stadiums on matchdays don’t generate a great deal of money so you have to create some commercial space to allow that to happen and that’s what we’re doing.”
