EAST Essex Tri Club had a busy weekend with the club hosting the Osborne Bros Triathlon at the Blackshots Leisure Centre in Grays.

There were many fine performances among the large East Essex Tri club contingent in this sprint distant race, comprising a 400m swim, 20km bike ride and 5Km run.

With more than100 triathletes participating competition was fierce among the leaders, but also with plenty of novices who were competing in their first triathlon just happy to complete the race.

Danielle Fuller, racing for the first time with four other friends said: "This was our first triathlon and we really couldn't have asked for a better experience!

"All of the marshals were just wonderful, so enthusiastic, so encouraging, so patient.

"It made such a huge difference, the atmosphere was so welcoming and so lovely, I especially appreciated all the marshals on the run who looked up our names to cheer us on even more!

"All of us have said we'd love to do another one again, and it's totally down to the fact today's experience was just incredible.”

Top honours for the day were claimed by East Essex Tri club members for both the women’s and men’s races.

The overall winner in a time of just 59minutes 12 seconds was Jack Martin, closely followed by Ben Brooks in 1:00:13.

Ben’s sister Charlotte went one better to come out victorious in the Women’s race in a time of 1:07:13.
