SIX young competitors from Southend Diving  qualified to attend the prestigious Swim England National Diving Skills Final at the Leeds Aquatic Centre.

This young team, aged between 9 and 12 years old, managed to smash through their scores in three different age group categories to achieve their new national rankings.

Southend Diving's top diver of the event was Lyla Rising,11, who dived exceptionally well and claimed the bronze medal in her age category.

Lyla’s team mate, Heidi Duff, 12, proceeded to make a top eight finish in her event.

She was closely followed by Thomas Buscombe, 11, who finished in 10th place.

The remaining three athletes were extremely close in the rankings with Briana Derbyshire-Fox, 12, Amelie Avery, 11, and Mollie Cotter, nine, finishing 11th, 12th and 15th respectively.

Head coach Shân Veasey said: "From a small team, in a competition that has large numbers of competitors, this young group shone in their achievements.

"Congratulations to top girl Lyla for an impressive result in a tough group.

"The results as a whole are very promising for the club.

"Myself and the coaching team are proud of the team for their national success this season".
