SOUTHEND United defender Gus Scott-Morriss missed Tuesday’s night clash at Colchester United due to a slight hamstring injury.

The right-back has been ruled out of Blues’ last three pre-season friendlies with the issue.

But Shrimpers boss Kevin Maher is hopeful Scott-Morriss will soon be back in action.

“Gus has trained but we can’t just risk it because he said it felt a little bit tight on certain movements,” said Maher.

“It’s his hamstring and like a few who are coming into full-time football I think they’re bodies are adjusting to it.

“It’s been a tough pre-season and I think he’s finding out what he can and can’t do but hopefully he will be back playing soon.”

Fellow defender Louis Lomas, who also joined Blues this summer, has missed the three last three friendlies with a thigh problem.
