SHANE Boxall stormed to glory in the first Southend 10k since 2019.

More than 700 runners completed the course.

But it was Boxall who led the way and the Southend AC star was delighted to triumph.

“I was really pleased with the win, “ said Boxall.

“To win my home race with lots of support out on the course was great.

“It was a hard fought race and tough conditions running back into a strong headwind.”

Boxall crossed the line in 32 minutes, 37 seconds.

And he was also pleased to see the event taking place for the first time since the pandemic.

“It was great to see the 10K back in the race calendar,” said Boxall.

“It’s always a brilliantly well marshalled and run event by Southend Athletic Club.

“I know how much hard work goes in to the event behind the scenes so it’s great to see it all pay off and come together.”

Taite Wallis (32:44) took second place in the race with Peter Bracken (33:13) third.

Lauren Reed, from Havering AC, was the first female finisher as she completed the course in 35 minutes, 50 seconds.

Laura Thomas (37:41) was second with Southend’s Rebecca O’Kill (39:07) third.
