WEALDSTONE boss Stuart Maynard thinks Southend United will be ‘right in the mix’ come the end of the National League season.

The Shrimpers triumphed 1-0 at Grosvenor Vale with Marcus Dackers scoring the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

And Maynard was impressed by how Blues dealt with what he felt was a good performance from his own side.

“I thought we played well and I thought we had the best chance of the game in the second half with Dom (Hutchinson),” Maynard told Wealdstone’s YouTube channel.

“I also thought we had a couple of penalty shouts ourselves and fair play to the ref, he said he would go and look at it.

“It’s frustrating but we’ve got to look at the positives and we’ve lost two games out of 10 in the National League.

“It’s been an incredible start for us and the group has done really well.

“We’ve got a young group who are learning on the job and we’re ahead of where we probably should be as a group.

“The lads have been absolutely outstanding and I can’t speak highly enough of them.

“It was a good performance today and we can’t become outcome based.

“Even with them going down to 10 men, did we knock on the door enough?

“No but sometimes you have to give huge credit to the opposition as well.

“They’re a good side and come the end of the season they will be right in the mix. “

The defeat leaves Wealdstone eighth in the National League table.
