JAMES Wakeling says he was sacked as manager of Southend Manor by text message.

Wakeling had been in charge of the Essex Senior League club since December.

But he was relieved of his duties following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Athletic Newham.

And Wakeling tweeted to reveal the unusual way he learnt of the decision while still at Southchurch Park.

He said: “Of course football is a results based business. I won’t say too much, the players know the ins and outs.

“But to get sacked by text whilst still at the club, yeah that doesn’t sit well.

“Thank you to the people behind the scenes for your endless help. Best of luck Southend Manor.”

Confirming the decision, a Manor club statement said: “Southend Manor have parted company with the first team management.

“The club would like to thank James and the team for all their efforts.

“The circumstances this season for the team have been extremely difficult but the club thank them for all they have done.”

Manor are currently bottom of the table with one point in seven games.
