FIT-AGAIN Southend United forward Rhys Murphy scored his first goal in 15 months on Saturday but still ended the afternoon feeling frustrated.

Murphy fired the Shrimpers in front against Aldershot Town at Roots Hall.

But the 32-year-old was disappointed his goal could not stop Kevin Maher’s side suffering a fifth successive defeat.

“The moment was nice but it would’ve been nicer coming off the pitch at the end with it counting towards three points,” said Murphy.

“Of course, confidence wise from a personal point of view it’s great because I can’t remember when my last goal was but I want to win games.”

Blues were beaten 2-1 by the Shots at the weekend.

And Murphy did not hide his frustration at the final whistle.

“It's bitterly disappointing,” said the striker.

“We said before the game we wanted that win and we've lost another game at home from a winning position so it doesn't get much worse.

“It's very, very frustrating but we need to dust ourselves down, take a look at the positives and where we need to be working on to prepare for the next game.”

Blues head to Altrincham on Saturday and Murphy knows confidence could start to become an issue.

“When you do lose a few games the confidence does drop,” said the forward.

“You start second guessing yourself and don't play as freely as you do when you're winning games.

“Sometimes it just takes that ugly win to get yourself back in form again.”

Blues are now 10th in the table, eight points behind the play-off places.

But Murphy still feels there is plenty to play for.

“The season isn't done and we are still in the hunt for the play-offs,” stressed the striker.

“There's still lots to play for so let’s look forward and stay positive.

“We shouldn't be thinking it's all doom and gloom We’re a team that’s been on runs before so we’re just looking for that first result to get us on our way.”
