SAM Mvemba is used to helping footballers hit the headlines but the Canvey Island star is now starting to make them himself.

By day, Mvemba works as a producer for Sky Sports.

But he combines that role with lining up for the Gulls and scored twice in an impressive 3-0 win at Carshalton Athletic on Monday night.

“We were very pleased with the win,” said Mvemba.

“Carshalton have started off very well this season.

“They’re third in the league but we did well.

“In the first half it was difficult to get hold of the game but in the second half it was all guns blazing and we did everything we could to get control.”

And Mvemba was pleased to play his part by bagging a brace.

“To be fair I was pretty shocked to score twice,” said the 23-year-old.

“I’m happy to do whatever I can to help the team so it was good to get the goals and to help us win.”

Victory saw Canvey move fourth in the Isthmian Premier Division standings.

And Mvemba felt it was important to triumph given the upcoming break in the Gulls’ season.

“We don’t play again for a couple of weeks now and I don’t really like it to be fair,” said Mvemba.

“We’re on a good run with momentum behind us so you want to keep the ball rolling but we have to look at it as a chance to freshen up.

“Evs (Evans Kouassi) has a knock as well so it will be good for him to come back but we’ll have to make sure we stay sharp during the break.

“But it was important to win on Monday because of how long we have without a game now.”

Mvemba, who is currently in his second season with Canvey, has played a variety of roles down the left hand side for Brad Wellmen’s side.

And he is confident Canvey are now ready to impress on a consistent basis “It’s been a slow start but finally we’ve found a way to get into our groove and rhythm,” said Mvemba.

“We’ve got results when we need to and hopefully we can maintain that now.

“We’ll take it a game at a time and do the best we can.”

But until then Mvemba will be able to spend more time working at the very top of the sport.

I’m a producer for Sky Sports in the digital department,” explained Mvemba.

“I edit, film and manage the socials and I’ve been doing it for two years now.

“I was at the FA before that and it’s a busy schedule.

“There’s always a crossover between working and the games I’m playing but the only way to deal with is to be extremely organised so that’s what I try to be.”
