SOUTHEND United midfielder Oli Coker insists the Shrimpers are determined to do well in the FA Cup this season.

Blues are currently battling on with a small squad due to a transfer embargo which has now been in place for 13 months.

But Coker is adamant Kevin Maher’s side will be desperate to win Saturday’s fourth round qualifying clash at Yeovil Town.

“I think the FA Cup is massive,” said Coker.

“It would be brilliant for us to have a run in it this season but it’s going to be a tough game on Saturday.

“Yeovil are in the league below but have a good squad and we are ready for that.”

The Shrimpers will also be going into the game on a high after winning 2-0 at Woking last time out.

And Coker was pleased with how Blues fought to pick up all three points.

“I thought it was a good game,” said the midfielder.

“I thought we managed the game very well too.

“We earned the right to play and in the end got what we deserved.”

Coker was also instrumental in the victory as he produced arguably his best performance of the season in the centre of the park.

And the 20-year-old feels he is benefitting from having a sustained run in the starting line-up.

“The run of games is really helping and I am growing in confidence,” said Coker.

“It helps when everyone knows their jobs in the team and can carry out the game plan.

“That’s what we have been doing as a team.

“Personally I felt like I had a decent game too and it’s something to build on.”

But Coker is also eager to work his way back onto the score-sheet.

“It’s something I do think about and I need to keep getting in the right positions to get the chance to have a strike,” said Coker.

“I am just happy for whoever scores though really, especially if we keep winning.”
