HASHTAG United moved to within one place of the Isthmian Premier Division play-offs after a fine 3-1 win against Canvey Island.

Toby Aromolaran, Percy Kiangebeni and Misha Djemaili were all on target for the Tags who sit five points behind fifth placed Wingate & Finchley with a game in hand.

And Hashtag boss Jay Devereux was delighted with what he felt was a well-deserved win.

“We were well worth the win but there’s also a little bit of frustration at conceding towards the end,” said Devereux.

“On the whole I thought we dominated the game.

“Canvey probably had a bit more possession at the start of the game but once we got hold of that we were worth the two goal lead at half-time.

“In the second half you know you’re going to get a bit of a reaction but I always felt like we were in control.

“We could have had a couple more but against a team in fantastic form it’s a good win.”

Hashtag led 3-0 before Canvey got a late goal back with Conor Hubble on target eight minutes from time.

But the defeat disappointed boss Brad Wellmen whose side are eighth in the table.

“We made it difficult for ourselves,” said Wellmen.

“You come to a club here on the 4G and Hashtag are very well organised.

“We felt we knew how to break them down but we just didn’t get going.

“We were sloppy and we were second to every ball.

“We deserved what we got from the game and that’s nothing.”

Elsewhere, Billericay Town slipped to fourth after suffering a 2-1 defeat at fifth placed Wingate & Finchley.
