SOUTHEND United are closing in on a swoop for Rushall Olympic striker Danny Waldron.
The 27-year-old is joint top scorer in National League North with 16 goals already this season and the Echo understands a deal for him to join the Shrimpers is close to being completed.
However, Blues boss Kevin Maher did not give much away when asked about the possibility of signing a new striker during his press conference on Thursday morning.
Maher said: "I don’t like to say too much because anything can happen but we’d like to have one in before Saturday if possible.
"You can tell we’re probably a touch short in that area.
"Cards (Harry Cardwell) is getting there in terms of fitness but if we could do one more I’m sure we would look at it."
