HARRY Cardwell is excited to have committed his future to Southend United.

The Shrimpers top scorer has signed a two and a half year deal to remain at Roots Hall.

And the 27-year-old, who will take on Gateshead tomorrow, cannot wait to kick on with Blues.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be a part of this football club for the next two-and-a-half years,” said Cardwell.

“It’s something that I’m really proud of and I think it’s an exciting time at the club.”

Cardwell joins Nathan Ralph, Jack Bridge, Cav Miley, Collin Andeng Ndi, Jason Demetriou and Oli Coker in signing a new deal since the club’s embargo was lifted by the consortium close to taking charge.

Boss Kevin Maher, his assistant Darren Currie and head coach Mark Bentley have also signed contracts.

Maher has also boosted his squad with five new signings and Cardwell feels it shows Blues now mean business.

“I think the club have shown tremendous ambition with the lads that have come in, the lads that have signed, and tying down the management staff as well,” said Cardwell.

“I’m really excited to see what we can achieve together.”

And Cardwell – who has scored 12 goals in 24 appearances is keen to keep on playing his part.

“I want to play football here, represent this Club, play for this management staff and with these players,” said Cardwell.

“I’m enjoying my football and hopefully I can continue to do that.”

Cardwell returned from a knee injury to start last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Chesterfield and now has his sights on this weekend’s clash with Gateshead at Roots Hall.

The striker joined Blues in January 2020 and has scored 23 goals in 64 appearances.
