DANNY Waldron will head into his home debut for Southend United this weekend fully focused on football.

The Shrimpers striker, who signed from Rushall Olympic a fortnight ago, has now completed a notice period with his former employers working in finance.

And Blues boss Kevin Maher is keen to see the forward kick on, starting with Saturday’s clash against Gateshead at Roots Hall.

“Danny’s had to work a notice period in his job,” said Maher.

“He’s only had a couple of training sessions with us, but going forward now hopefully that’s put to bed.

“We’ve had to manage him and get him going, but hopefully he can really kick on now.”

Waldron came off the bench for Blues during the second half of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to table-topping Chesterfield.

The striker has scored 16 goals in National League North this season but he faces a fight to earn further opportunities at the Shrimpers with Marcus Dackers, Harry Cardwell and Henry Sandat also vying for selection in attack.
