SOUTHEND United’s caretaker boss Gary Waddock expects Simon Cox to be available for Saturday’s trip to Gillingham.

Cox injured his ankle during the 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley at Roots Hall at the weekend.

But Waddock feels Cox, last season’s top scorer, will soon be back in action.

“We don’t know the full extent of the injuries right now but I think Coxy will probably be fit,” said Waddock.

“It will be good to have him available too.”

However, Waddock does not expect Charlie Kelman to be back in time to face the Gills.

The youngster also injured his ankle against Accrington and is facing longer on the sidelines than Cox.

“Charlie will be out for much longer,” added Waddock.
