The following letter has been published in the Echo:

Hardly a week goes by when there is no report of yobs perpetrating wanton destruction.

The question comes up as to what can be done about it.

Regrettably the answer is nothing. The damage has already been done.

Kids are wild animals so it is up to parents and teachers to tame them.

It is all too evident that this is not happening.

Recall the adage, “spare the rod and spoil the child”!

Recently I heard of a current philosophy for parents. It is “Gentle Parenting”. The practice is to ask the child to decide all manner of things.

The result is that my great great nephew aged four is being taught that he takes the decisions so does as he pleases.

He will repeat something that caused damage first time around and has become incapable of understanding the consequence of his actions.

I shudder to think what is going to happen ten years on.
