SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher opted to rest Gus Scott-Morriss for Saturday’s clash with Woking.

The right-wing back had been playing through the pain with a knee problem in recent weeks.

And Maher decided it was time to give the 26-year-old a break.

“When Gus came back after his knee problem he hadn’t trained for 10 days,” said Maher.

“He came back in and played something like seven games in 23 days now we’re going four games in nine or 10 days.

“It just made sense and I couldn’t risk him.

“He came on and hopefully he’s ready for Tuesday now.”
