OLD Southendian’s first XI remain unbeaten after they played out a 1-1 draw with Wapping in a top-of-the-table clash.

Wapping were also unbeaten and it was the home team that started well, with the Old Boys pushed back, and it was Wapping that took a deserved lead midway through the half.

Old Southendian held out until half-time and, with everything to play for, the team employed a full court press in a bid to get the result.

Wapping's goalkeeper was lucky to get away with a calamitous clearance which fell to Liam Peoples on the top of the circle, but his shot was well saved by a defender on the line.

The Old Boys started to win short corners, and James Byford was on hand to equalise from one after a neat interchange with club talisman Stuart MacDonald.

With the scores locked at 1-1, both teams had opportunities in the final minutes to take the three points, but the defences held firm and the Old Boys took a share of the points to remain four-points clear at the top of the table.

The mens third team lost 4-0 against Wapping fifths, although the fifth XI enjoyed a big win.

The fifths beat Saffron Walden sevenths 4-1, with the goals coming from Philip Herrtage, Oscar Ahlers-Diver, Ben Cotton and Dan Copley to move Old Southendian out of relegation zone for first time this season.

The sixths played second in the league Chelmsford sixths, and it was the Old Boys that came out on top in a 4-3 win.

Harry Raffan, David Ashworth and a Trevor Guy brace proved to be enough.
