STEVE Tilson has hailed C&K Basildon Ladies’ last minute win over Cardiff City Ladies as his best result since taking charge three years ago.

Debutant Jay Blackie scored three minutes into injury time to ensure Tilson’s side came from 2-0 down to secure the three points and deny their Welsh opponents the chance of going top of the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division.

And Tilson was delighted to see his side complete a sensational comeback.

The former Southend United boss said: “I’ve been the manager for three years now and this is the best result we’ve had in that time.

“The girls worked ever so hard and fully deserved the result because of how much they put into the game.

“Cardiff are a strong side. They are second in the table and could have gone top if they had won and Spurs had been beaten but the girls kept on going even when they were 2-0 down.”

C&K Basildon handed debuts to Blackie, Danica Revell and Katherine Donahue in their first league outing since December.

High-flying Cardiff City took a seventh minute lead but the hosts thought they had levelled almost immediately, only for Angela Addison’s effort to be ruled out for offside.

It looked as though C&K Basildon had a mountain to climb when the visitors doubled their lead with only 12 minutes on the clock.

But Addison got on the scoresheet four minutes later to reduce the arrears.

Sara Sinclair dispossessed the Cardiff City left back before cutting the ball back to Addison, who steered the ball into the net.

Stacey Little passed up opportunities to equalise as she headed over an Amy Nash free kick and was later denied by the goalkeeper.

But C&K Basildon did get back on level terms just past the hour mark as Zoe Rushen converted from the penalty spot after Blackie had been brought down.

Cardiff City looked to regain their advantage but were denied by a Donahue block and goalkeeper Cherie Rowlands tipped a goalbound effort onto the crossbar.

Rowlands then made a superb save when one-on-one as the match ticked into injury time.

And that save proved crucial as Blackie slid in at the far post to convert Addison’s low cross.

Tilson was full of praise for Blackie and Addison after they combined to score the winner.

“We’ve made a couple of signings which has helped,” he added.

“Jay Blackie has added experience and quality to our group and this result will give everyone a real boost.

“Angela has also come into the team from the development group and it’s been great to see.

“We need to go and try and build on this result now.”
